Hello Everyone!
Today we are going to share a few details about the solar eclipse. We shall also like to address some common related questions.
What is a solar eclipse?
As per our scriptures when the Sun, the Moon and Rahu / Ketu come in the same zodiac and constellation, then eclipse occurs.
According to the Vedic ancient science, after churning the nectar, Lord Vishnu was distributing the nectar, then Rahu changed form and drank the nectar along with the gods. Sun complained it to Lord Vishnu, and then Lord Vishnu cut Rahu's head by Sudarshan. The head was severed from the torso. Then Rahu’s body got into two parts, the upper part became Rahu and the lower part became Ketu. Now as they had consumed the nectar, both of them also became immortal. As it was because of the Sun’s complaint, Rahu’s head was cut that’s the reason Rahu and Ketu keep trying to harm Sun by way of eclipse.
Why is consuming food considered forbidden during the eclipse period?
When there is an eclipse on the Sun, then a lot of negative rays come on Earth, and these harmful rays make our food unhealthy. We should put Tulsi (Basil) leaves in drinking water, milk, oil so as to keep them safe.
As because in our Vedic scriptures, Sun has been considered as a factor of our soul, therefore, to save our soul from that eclipse, we should recite the name of the Lord, do satsang, meditation etc
During the eclipse period, ocher or sandalwood paste is applied on the pregnant woman's stomach, as both ocher and sandalwood paste are cold, due to which the impact of negative energy of the sun does not reach the child in her womb. A pregnant woman should also meditate on her favorite deity, chant the mantra etc., and should avoid sleeping during this period.
During the eclipse period, only children, elderly and sick are exempted and allowed to eat food.
When the eclipse is over, it is normally recommended to take bath with water mixed with some salt to wash out the negative energy of the eclipsed sun
After the eclipse ends, we should donate food to the needy.
